What are the do's and don'ts before a mommy makeover?

A mommy makeover is a customized combination of body rejuvenation plastic surgery procedures to help you regain your pre-pregnancy body. Usually addressing the tummy, breasts, and fat deposits on the hips and thighs, these procedures can help bring back your confidence in your physique.

Before your mommy makeover, you will want to be prepared. Here’s a list of the dos and don’ts to think with before your procedure.

Dos

  • Take advantage of your consultation to get any questions answered and to feel confident about the procedure plan.

Once Dr. Delgado lays out your treatment plan, be sure to get your questions answered. Examine before and after photos, discuss your particular target areas for improvement, and get a full idea of what’s ahead. If you’re having a breast augmentation, take your time choosing the right size, type and shape of implant to suit your aesthetic vision.

  • Arrange for a family member or close friend to drive you to your surgery, and home

Arrange to have a responsible adult you can trust to take you to your procedure and bring you home after surgery. Be sure they or another person you can rely on can help care for you for a couple of days while you are recovering.

  • Arrange childcare

Arrange childcare at home to help you with the kids for a couple of weeks after the procedure. You will need time to rest and relax, and another person doing the heavy lifting with your children is imperative.

  • Remove your makeup and jewelry

Remove all makeup, piercings, and jewelry from your body, and leave your jewelry at home, along with any valuables. Keep these safe where you want them once you’re healed and ready to wear them again. Bring along storage cases for contacts or glasses during your surgery.

  • Get your pain medications filled in advance of your surgery

You’ll want these to be available without having to make a trip to the pharmacy to pick them up.

  • Be certain you’re done having children

These procedures are for women who are sure that they are done having children.

Don’ts

  • Eat or drink after midnight on the day before surgery.

Don’t eat anything or drink anything, including water, from midnight the night before surgery, until the surgery itself. If your stomach has food and drink in it, there's a risk of vomiting or bringing up food into your throat.

  • Smoke

If you smoke, quit at least a couple of weeks before the surgery. If you don't quit smoking before surgery, you may be at higher risk for infections since oxygen is the main source for healing wounds, and smoking inhibits oxygen flow in the body. Smoking decreases blood flow, which makes your surgical wounds less likely to heal well or close. Smoking also weakens the immune system, which further increases the chance of infection after surgery.

  • Drink alcohol

In the days leading up to your surgery, don’t drink alcohol. It can complicate your procedures.

  • Take blood thinners

Stop taking blood thinners or herbal supplements such as aspirin or St. John’s Wort  1-2 days before your surgery. Blood thinners can increase the risk of bleeding and stop the surgical wounds from healing as quickly.

Our staff will provide you with a comprehensive list of instructions to help you prepare and feel confident as you go into your mommy makeover procedure, looking ahead to the firm, shapely and rejuvenated body you want.
