Juvéderm Volbella for Lips
Our lips are one of our most intriguing features. Over time, however, the lips begin to lose shape and definition due to the loss of vital substances in the skin. Fine, vertical lines around the mouth can further contribute to an aged appearance. Fortunately, there are non-invasive procedures that can enhance thinning–or naturally thin–lips. Injectable fillers such as Juvéderm Volbella can instantly plump up the lips, helping patients achieve fuller, more defined lips.

Before Volbella Lip Enhancement Treatment
Volbella treatments do not require extensive preparation. In fact, it is possible to receive injections the same day as your consultation. Prior to the treatment, you will consult with Dr. Delgado and our Certified Aesthetic Nurse Specialist (CANS), Ariel Kirk. Because the active agent (hyaluronic acid) is biocompatible, no allergy test is needed. Some patients may experience mild bruising at the injection site after treatment. To minimize the possibility of bruising, it is best to avoid aspirin and similar over-the-counter analgesic pain medications a week before your appointment. Ariel can advise you on how to prepare when you schedule your appointment.
During Volbella Lip Enhancement Treatment
A Volbella treatment can be performed during a lunch hour appointment at Dr. Delgado’s Novato, CA office. During the treatment, our expert injection specialist will gently inject the Volbella gel into the lips with a fine, sterile needle. As the gel is injected, the injection specialist will carefully monitor the amount of product that is being introduced although Volbella injections are a straightforward procedure, it is important that a qualified medical professional administer the filler. Natural-looking results require a refined eye and experience with Volbella.
After Volbella Lip Enhancement Treatment
There is no downtime needed after Volbella injections and most patients can immediately return to their normal activities. The lip area may be red and tender, but these side effects are temporary and typically resolve themselves within a few days. Vigorous exercise it not recommended the day of the treatment.
Volbella gives instant, visible results. Immediately after the treatment, the lips may appear more swollen until the filler settles. It is important not to rub or massage the lips for a few days, as the filler is malleable. Results can be enduring and last for up to a year. Individual outcomes will vary depending the condition of the skin and whether the filler was used for lip augmentation or vertical wrinkles. To best maintain results, touch up injections can be performed periodically.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does Volbella work?
Volbella contains an active ingredient called hyaluronic acid (HA), a hydrating sugar substance our bodies naturally produce. Hyaluronic acid provides cushioning in the joints and helps keep the skin supple. As we age, our natural supplies of hyaluronic acid begin to diminish. When injected into the skin, hyaluronic acid binds to water, replenishing the skin and giving it an instant boost.
Are Volbella injections painful?
Most patients do not report significant pain during treatment. Volbella contains a small amount of lidocaine, a local anesthetic that helps minimize discomfort when the gel is injected.
I have a big event and would like a lip enhancement. When should I schedule my Volbella treatment?
After injections, you may experience some minor bruising and swelling. Ariel recommends scheduling your Volbella lip augmentation 7-10 days before an important event to allow for swelling and bruising to subside.
Is Volbella safe for all skin types?
Yes, Volbella is safe to use on all skin types. The filler is highly tolerated and the treatment carries few risks of serious complications. Individuals with certain allergies or medical conditions may not be the best candidates.
