What is Restylane?

Restylane is a versatile family of cosmetic injectable dermal fillers that has been FDA-approved to treat various signs of age. Its active ingredient is hyaluronic acid, which is a natural moisturizing protein that we all have within our bodies, but begins to dissipate with age. Hyaluronic acid is very important because it makes our skin plumper, more hydrated, more radiant, and more youthful-looking.

How Restylane Works

Restylane is an injectable. When administered beneath the skin, the substance enters your tissues and combines with your body’s natural hyaluronic acid, binding to water. This makes the skin plump up to hide lines, wrinkles, and sunken areas—and provides volume where needed, such as the lips. Restylane has been developed with tiny granules of hyaluronic acid that has a texture intended to achieve longer-lasting results (up to 18 months). This granular texture also help to deliver a smoother appearance after injection.

The Restylane Family of Fillers

The Restylane brand offers a range of highly effective products that are made differently to address specific issues and levels of severity.

A mid-grade filler developed to improve the appearance of moderate to severe lines, wrinkles, and nasolabial folds, the under-eye area, and thin lips. Results can last up to 10 months.

Restylane Lyft

One of the sturdiest and strongest dermal fillers available, Restylane Lyft can support quite a lot of tissue and has an excellent lifting capability. It can beautifully add volume and lift sagging skin, and is also often used for the jawline and cheekbones. Results can last up to 18 months.

Restylane Silk

Made of a very thin gel, Restylane Silk is a favorite for natural-looking lip enhancement and treating very fine lines, such as the under-eye area. Results can last up to 10 months.

Restylane Refyne and Defyne

Restylane Refyne and Defyne were created to treat laugh lines of the face with varying levels of aggressiveness. For those who have lighter smile lines, Refyne is ideal. For those with deeper smile lines, Defyne is most likely better, as it’s made with a thicker gel. Results from Refyne and Defyne can last for up to 18 months.

Restylane Kysse

One of the absolute best dermal fillers available for the lips, Restylane Kysse offers natural-looking plumpness, flexibility, and enhanced lip color. It also had the ability to treat “smoker’s lines” (thin lines) around the mouth. Results can last up to 12 months.

What are Restylane Treatments Like?

Before treatment, your skin will be cleansed. If necessary, a numbing agent may be used to keep you comfortable. A fine needle will be used to inject Restylane just below your skin. Once the injections are complete, the area may be massaged to make sure the product is dispersing correctly. Treatment time is 15-30 minutes.

Downtime and Results

Although Restylane requires very minimal downtime, common side effects include redness and bruising at the injection sites, as well as a “full” sensation within the skin. For 24 hours following treatment, we recommend avoiding exercise, heat, and sun exposure.
