WHAT ARE NOVATHREADS?

This innovative treatment involves the use of biocompatible dissolvable sutures which the body recognizes as a prompt to produce collagen. The tiny threads are ultimately replaced with the body’s own collagen. In turn, the skin is more toned and lifted. This occurs at three weeks post-insertion and continues through three months or four to six months, depending on the specific thread type utilized. NovaThreads in San Francisco are typically used in conjunction with BOTOX® Cosmetic, fillers, and lasers to optimize results.

Made of Polydioxanone (PDO), NovaThreads are biocompatible and safely absorbed by the body over time. Once placed, the body’s natural healing response stimulates the creation of collagen along the sutures. As healing continues, the new collagen being produced becomes robust enough to hold facial tissues in their lifted position without the support of the NovaThreads. Starting at three weeks and, depending on the thread designed used, continuing for about three months or four to six months, the NovaThreads should be fully dissolved—leaving behind the body’s own natural collagen.

WHAT ARE THE KEY BENEFITS OF NOVATHREADS?

NovaThreads in Marin County offer several benefits to women and men who are losing collagen through the aging process. Depending on your specific needs and goals, this treatment can help:

  • Reduce the appearance of facial lines and wrinkles
  • Lift and tighten sagging skin in the lower face, jowls, neck, and eyebrow
  • Enhance definition around the borders of the lips
  • Create a more defined jawline

In addition to these benefits, NovaThreads can often be combined with other aesthetic facial treatments—such as dermal fillers or BOTOX® Cosmetic—to achieve a more comprehensive rejuvenation.

WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR NOVATHREADS?

The best candidates for NovaThreads include individuals who have:

  • Facial lines and wrinkles
  • Minor to moderate skin sagging in the lower face and neck
  • Volume loss in the midface
  • Good overall skin quality
  • Strong bone structure

At the time of your consultation, a full facial evaluation will be performed to determine if this procedure is right for you, or if another cosmetic treatment would be more appropriate for your unique needs and goals.

HOW IS THE NOVATHREADS PROCEDURE PERFORMED?

At the practice of board-certified plastic surgeon Miguel Delgado, MD, our Certified Aesthetic Nurse Specialist—Ariel Kirk, RN, CANS—incorporates NovaThreads into her minimally invasive treatments in the comfort and convenience of our Novato office. There are multiple NovaThreads suture designs, each of which is intended to address specific aesthetic concerns. These include barbed threads, smooth threads, and twist threads. At the time of the consultation, Ariel can determine which thread design (or combination of designs) would be most beneficial based on the targeted treatment area(s) and enhancement desired.

During the actual procedure, Ariel will meticulously insert the selected NovaThreads sutures one at a time through subdermal tissues. By carefully retracting the needle, each thread is woven back through the tissue layers, creating a loop underneath the skin. Performed in-office using local anesthesia, the entire NovaThreads treatment can often be completed in approximately 30 minutes.

While there may be some degree of swelling and/or bruising in the treated areas immediately following the procedure, these symptoms are not usually enough to prevent patients from returning to everyday activities as soon as treatment is complete.

How Long Do The Results Of NovaThreads Last?

The longevity of results achieved with NovaThreads will depend on the treatment area and quantity of dissolvable sutures used. On average, the rejuvenative effects of treatment tend to endure for approximately 6 to 18 months for most patients. Images courtesy of NovaThreads.

Despite being one of the most populous cities in California, San Francisco is still dedicated to green space and offers expansive parks for recreation. Mission Dolores Park is one green space located in the Mission District nearby the Mission Dolores – and only three miles from the practice of Dr. Miguel Delgado and 29 miles from Dr. Delgado’s Marin County offices in Novato. Mission Dolores Park is one of the most popular parks in San Francisco and regularly attracts up to 7,000-10,000 people on sunny weekends. In 1906, the park was used as a refugee camp for residents who were displaced by the San Francisco earthquake and subsequent fire. Along with being a popular recreational spot, Mission Dolores Park also hosts many festivals, celebrations, and rallies throughout the year.
