Facelifts For Men Require Different Techniques

August 30, 2017Male facelifts in San Francisco

55 year old male  presented to the Novato office in Marin County for facial rejuvenation. He underwent a facelift, nose reshaping, upper and lower eyelid lift, endoscopic brow lift, pre-jowl chin implant and corrugator excision.

Facelifts for men are more challenging than for women for several reasons. Men with short hair, shaved heads or who are bald present a significant challenge for the surgeon. No one wants their surgery to be obvious; therefore, it is imperative that when the incisions heal they are almost invisible.

FACELIFTS FOR MEN TAKES AN EXPERT

The aesthetic goals for men are different than for women. Women want a more youthful feminine facelift result. Men want rejuvenation of the face but preserve a natural masculine appearance with an athletic neck and jawline.

The expert facelift surgeon carefully chooses the location of incisions for the male. If there is excess skin requiring excision, with a less experienced surgeon, the sideburns may inadvertently be removed giving an unacceptable result. To avoid displacement or removal of sideburns, the incision should be along the temporal hairline with the removal of excess skin anterior to the sideburns allowing their position to remain unchanged with no distortion to the shape or position of the ears.

FACELIFT SURGEONS USE DIFFERENT TECHNIQUES

Different surgeons use different techniques to hide scars when performing facelifts. Ask to view many before and after pictures of a doctor’s patients. Pay particular attention to the placement and visibility of the scars.

In choosing a facelift surgeon, many patients are understandably anxious because they have seen unwanted results such as the windswept look, visible scars, pulled earlobes (pixie ears), the skin being pulled in the wrong direction, and distorted hairlines.

The incision around or in the ear needs to be placed without tension so that it will blend in with the natural anatomy of the ear and hairline. This is a very time-consuming procedure but necessary for hiding scars. Well-hidden scars are critical for men with short hairstyles and for women who want to wear their hair up or pulled back without fear of obvious scars.

CHOOSE YOUR FACELIFT SURGEON CAREFULLY!

Several procedures can be done without the need for a full facelift. For example, the short scar neck lift where the incision is submental (under the chin), a brow lift, and eyelid surgery.

For the man who needs a full facelift and has little to no hair to hide the incisions, expert plastic surgeons get excellent results by extensive planning.

More important than procedure choice, is the selection of a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon who has an expert aesthetic eye and knows what technique will achieve the patient’s goals.
